Setting Up a Foal Cam, Pet Cam, Nanny Cam
Setting up a webcam is easier then most people think. There are several ways and I will describe each method, none of the methods are expensive.
1: You can setup a webcam using any camcorder that you currently have, what you will need in addition to your camcorder is a video capture card, we recommend the Vidium VO by www.winnov.com , the cost is about $160 and is very easy to install. How this works is you install the video capture card in your computer, then using any standard VCR cable, connect the camcorder to the capture card simply by plugging the VCR cable into the camcorder then the other end into the capture card.
2: Purchase A Camera from
a camera store or Ebay - I use a wired day/night color camera, I do not use the wireless because there is to much interference in my area, so if you use a cam like this, you have to decide on wired or wireless, when you buy a wired cam, you will also get a long VCR cable that you can connect into a video capture card, you will need a video capture card for this method also. Using a camera that requires a video capture card will give you the best video. A good clear video is a must in my opinion to see what is exactly going on in your mares stall.
3: Use a small webcam/quickcam like those purchased in bestbuy - these are a quick cheap solution but you get what you pay for, the video will not be near as good, but if you have a computer with a USB port its just plug and go, but I can almost guarantee you will not be happy with the quality of the video.
After setting a webcam up on your computer the next step is to get your webcam on the internet, you do this buy purchasing a video connection on our server, the cost is only $20 a month and there is no software you need to buy. We will then place you in the server and make your video webpage for you, you may also choose to have a chat room like the one use use here www.avalanchfriesians.com/horse.html at no extra charge.
